Piazzolla - Libertango arranged for Flute Choir - PDF Download (2019)
Piazzolla’s exhilarating, relentless favourite! Now available for standard Flute Choir set-up! My previous edition (viewable here - get in touch if you would like details) was heavy on Low Flutes - needing two contrabass and four bass flutes. This edition needs:
Concert Flutes x 4
Alto Flute x 1
Bass/Contrabass Flute x 1
In general - the spotlight is quite evenly split between the parts - and extended techniques are used fairly liberally throughout - contributing to the atmosphere and energy. Bass and Alto introduce “that” ground bass to begin with tremelando chords from Flute 2, 3 and 4 and tongue pops from Flute 1, then Flute 2 takes the melody, while Flutes 3 & 4 use some explosive articulation to drive along the beat.
Then Flute 1 takes the melody with a strong and heroic alto flute counter-melody, and the rich second subject theme is sonorously orchestrated before the final driving and relentless theme gets us home.
There is scope to put a repeat in from bars 17-48 in order to beef out the timing - but really - this is one that is short and hopefully very, very sweet!
Here’s my rehearsal video for this piece - hoping you find it entertaining and useful!
